Description

Replace a worn, noisy or broken 280Z speedometer cable with the Pioneer Automotive Industries Speedometer Cable CA-3162, a direct-fit replacement for the 1975-1978 Nissan 280Z, 1974-1975 Nissan 260Z and 1970-1973 Nissan 240Z. The cable carries rotation from the speedometer drive to the gauge in the instrument cluster, so the speedometer can register road speed.

Pioneer builds its cables as a high-quality replacement alternative, pairing a steel core with a protective outer jacket:

  • Made to OE specs: Pioneer manufactures this cable to OE specifications for the listed applications.
  • Steel inner cable: A durable steel inner cable transmits the rotating drive to the speedometer.
  • Polymer outer housing: The outer housing shields the inner cable from corrosion and abrasion.
  • Hardware where applicable: Pioneer cables often come with common brackets, grommets and ends where the application calls for them.

Signs a speedometer cable may need replacing include a needle that bounces or flutters, a speedometer that stays at zero while the car is moving, or a ticking or whining noise from behind the instrument cluster. A faulty speedometer head or drive gear can cause similar symptoms, so diagnose the cause before replacing the cable. See the Buyer’s Guide tab for full application details.
