The oil pump draws oil from the sump and delivers it under pressure through the engine’s oil galleries to lubricate the bearings, valvetrain and other moving parts. If a worn pump is behind low oil pressure, a lit oil-pressure warning light, or ticking from oil-starved components, this replaces it.
